Application
The Bowell MFZ flail mower series is equipped with a professional transmission making it the perfect choice for tractors up to 70hp in rough environments. With available working widths of up to 195cm and a 52cm hydraulic side-shift function, Bowell professional MFZ mowers can be used most effectively where woody plants and branches like in fruit farming and vineyards have to be delt with. In combination with your powerful tractor, the MFZ-mowers are superior to almost any vegetation and offer high work efficiency.
Technology
Part of the accessory for this mower are massive tines, that can be inserted in the rear of the mower housing. These tines will keep branches inside the mower untill they have been shredded to a size small enough to fit in between the gaps between the tines.
These tines can be removed for standard mowing. In case of mowing very high grass you have the option to open the rear cover of the housing to prevent congestions inside the mower.
The practical 520mm hydraulic side-shift saves manoeuvring in narrow corners, under fences and arround trees. This function requires one double-acting hydraulic control valve on your tractor.
The new 2020 Bowell MFZ flail mowers use the new Bowell Power Efficiency Technology. If your tractor supports 1000rpm PTO speed in addition to the standard 540rpm speed, you can use your MFZ flail mower also with the highspeed option. Just swap the two pulleys from the belt drive against each other and you can reach the same mowing performance with higher efficiency and less fuel consumption. Save fuel with the new Bowell Power Efficiency technology at no extra cost and from the first meter.
Bowell is using 12 to 18 of the new large specially designed 1500gr high performance forged flail hammers that ensure a perfect mowing result on grass, undergrowth and bushes and will shred branches of up to 50mm diameter effectively. The new counter knives in the mower inside, improve the mowing performance significantly. This makes the Bowell MFZ mowers the first choice for vineyard owners and fruit farmers.
The mowing height is adjusted by the heavy self cleaning rear roller, to prevent the mower from cutting into the ground on bumpy surface.
The large professional free-wheel transmission, made by the famous italian factory COMER, lets the knife shaft turn, once the PTO is switched off, so that its movement will not be transferred to the tractor. The mower´s front is equipped with solid metal safety flaps to prevent debris and stones being thrown out of the machine.
All MFZ-mowers have easily accessible stainless steel grease nipples for easy service and height adjustable skids and support leg for storage. The PTO shaft is part of the accessory for all MFZ-flail mowers. The short and easy service plan in the user manual helps you on maintenance and service.
The completely assembled ready to use machine is delivered in the massive Bowell wooden case.
Like all other Bowell mowers, the MFZ series has an electronically balanced rotor shaft which is driven by 3 or 4 wide belts. The heavy free-wheel gear box runs in an oil bath, so the transmission oil has to be filled up before you first use the machine.

Underneath the massive 4 to 6mm steel housing sits the massive laser balanced knife shaft with 12 to 18 high performance specially shaped hammer knifes, each with a weight of 1500gr. The flail hammers are galvanized and made of forged steel and can be individually exchanged and regrinded. MFZ flail mowers come with SKF rotor-shaft ball-bearings, sitting in massive CNC-milled bearing seats. Powered by the PTO shaft, the knife shafts turns with an amazing 2200 rpm and cuts the material down to a minimum, so that it can rot away fast. The heavy rear roller in the back of the mower guarantees smooth performance even on rough grounds. A further improved, spiral arrangement of the flails on the rotor shaft guarantees maximum performance with minimum effort for the tractor.
The new Bowell 4-belt-drive makes sure that despite the very high knife weight of 1500gr each and the wide working width of the MFZ-175 and MFZ-195, you can enjoy an almost 100% power transfer rate without belt problems.

How does the MFZ mulcher position itself behind your tractor ?
Let us assume that your tractor is 98c m wide from its centre to the right outer edge of the tyre (i.e. 196 cm total width), then the mulcher should extend more than these 98 cm to the right from the centre of the tractor. This allows the mulcher to mow to the right of the right rear wheel. This would allow you to keep some distance to e.g. a fence, bush, tree or shed with the tractor and still mow flush.
The three-point linkage can be moved hydraulically on this model. At the respective shifting end points, the values A1, B1 etc. and A2, B2 etc. are obtained as shown below.
If the mulcher is to extend more than 98 cm from the centre of the tractor to the right in the example chosen here, the MFZ-135 would be too narrow (A1 = 965mm), even if it were to be shifted fully to the right in the direction of travel. The MFZ-155 pushed all the way to the right (A1 = 1165 mm) would be able to mow about 18 cm and the MFZ-175 (A1 = 1365 mm) even about 38 cm to the right of the right rear wheel. The maximum value for this series would then be reached with the MFZ-195 at 58 cm, provided your tractor has enough power.
