The Bowell BCS flail mower series is equipped with a very powerful double sided transmission made by the famous italian factory Comer, making it the perfect choice for medium and larger tractors as front or rear mower. With available working widths of up to 220cm and a hydraulic side-shift function of up to 500mm, Bowell`s professional BSC mowers can be used almost anywhere. In combination with the right tractor BCS-mowers are superior to almost any vegetation and can still offer high work efficiency.
The conveniant 500mm hydraulic side-shift system saves manoeuvring in narrow corners. This function requires a double acting hydraulic control circuit on your tractor.
Bowell is using 12 to 20 large high performance forged flail hammers (depending on working width) - each with a weight of 1300gr and made of tooling steel - that ensure a perfect mowing result on grass, undergrowth and bushes up to 30mm diameter. The new counter knifes inside the mower helps to even increase the performance to allow mulching even high grass. The mowing height is adjusted by the heavy self cleaning roller, to prevent the mower from cutting into the ground on bumpy surface.
The large Comer free-wheel transmission lets the rotor shaft turn, once the PTO is switched off, so that its movement will not be transferred to the tractor. The mower´s front is equipped with safety flaps to prevent debris and stones being thrown out of the machine.
Front and rear mount for 540 / 1000 rpm PTO shafts
The Bowell BCS flail mower uses the Bowell Power Efficiency Technology. If your tractor supports 1000rpm PTO speed in addition to the standard 540rpm speed, you can use your MXZ flail mower also with the highspeed option. Just swap the two pulleys from the belt drive against each other and you can reach the same mowing performance with higher efficiency and less fuel consumption. Save fuel with the new Bowell Power Efficiency technology at no extra cost and from the first meter. The double sided Comer transmission offers the possibility to use the mower on the front or rear of a tractor if it has a front PTO shaft installed. The Comer transmission can be used with 540 and 1000 rpm PTO shaft speed just by switching the upper and lower pulley of the drive belt system. The Bowell BCS mowers are equipped with a double 3-point hitch, making it extremely easy to change between a front or rear mount mowing system. The rotor shaft, powered by the tractor´s PTO shaft, is turning with 2150rpm (540) or 2270rpm (1000) and cuts the material down to a minimum so that it can rot away fast. The heavy rear roller guarantees a smooth performance even on rough grounds.
Bowell 4-belt drive system
The new Bowell 4-belt drive system with 17mm wide drive belts and reinforced pulleysguaratees an almost 100% power transfer rate with virtually 0% belt slippage even for these large mowers. The new Bowell belt cover lets you check the correct belt tension within seconds without having to remove the belt cover. This makes service and maintenance a lot easier than before.
All BCS-mowers have easily accessible stainless steel. grease nipples for easy service and height adjustable skids and support leg for storage. The PTO shaft is part of the accessory for all BCS-flail mowers. The short and easy service plan in the user manual helps you on maintenance and service.The completely assembled ready to use machine is delivered in the massive Bowell wooden case.
SKF ball bearing
Like all other Bowell mowers, the BCS series has an electronically balanced knife shaft which is driven by four 17mm wide belts. The heavy Comer free-wheel gear box runs in an oil bath, so the included transmission oil has to be filled in before you first you the machine. Underneath the massive 4 or 6mm steel housing sits the massive laser balanced knife shaft with 12 to 20 high performance hardened and galvanized hammer shaped knifes, each with a weight of 1300gr. The knifes are made of hardened steel and can be individually exchanged and regrinded. Powered by the PTO shaft, the rotor shaft mounted with SKF ball bearings turns with 2150 rpm (540) or 2270 rpm (1000) and cuts the material down to a minimum, so that it can rot away fast. The heavy roller in the back of the mower guarantees smooth performance even on rough grounds.

How does the BCS mulcher position itself behind your tractor ?
The reference point is always the centre of your tractor, i.e. where the PTO output is.Let us assume that your tractor is 110 cm wide from its centre to the right rear outer edge of the tyre (i.e. 220 cm total width), then the mulcher should extend more than these 110 cm to the right from the centre of the tractor. This allows the mulcher to mow to the right of the right rear wheel. This would allow you to keep some distance to e.g. a fence, bush, tree or shed with the tractor and still mow flush.
The three-point linkage can be moved hydraulically on this model. At the respective shifting end points, the values A1, B1 etc. and A2, B2 etc. are obtained as shown below.
If, in the example chosen here, the flail mower is to extend more than 110 cm from the centre of the tractor to the right, even the BCS-160 (D1 = 1196mm) would be able to do this, but you will need to use the hydraulic side shift. Depending on tractor power, you can choose larger models such as the BCS-240 and then even mow almost 90cm to the right of the right rear wheel.
The BCS tractor mulcher is a front/rear mulcher, so it can also be used on the front of the tractor, provided there is a PTO output and a three-point linkage there. As a rule, tractors are narrower at the front axle than at the rear axle, so that significantly different values can then result.
